BMP is awfully big, GIF is propietary and JPG is loosy. The final artwork must be on PNG. By now you can use whatever thing that GFX coordinator finds acceptable. Okay, I've had a little time to think about the world - It's probably best to start with some general ideas, and then turn those entire world ideas onto some small plots of land to begin the game with. Before I start shooting off ideas, I've got some questions. I don't know if all of this had been addressed before (I've spent a little time digging through the archives...) or if many of these things still need to be plotted out. Here goes: 1. Will all, most or some of the races be based around home cities when the game is first launched? 2. Has there been much discussion on the background of the world (politics/religion/racial emnities) 3. I am assuming that the land will be contigous? i.e. no zones like EQ. Is this correct? 4. Given the world ecology, has anyone given thought to what happened with Ultima Online and their animals and trees? Basically, player characters hunted animals and trees into extinction in order to hoard the items that these objects provided. It seems that were there is a large gathering of individuals, this tends to happen. Will there be methods in place to prevent this? If every chicken in Arianne is killed, how will more be generated? 5. Would it be helpful if I came up with some general ideas about the world and why it's the way it is, and then posted them here for feedback? Say five or six scenarios which people could look at, perhaps vote on? 6. I'm assuming this is entirely a fantasy scenario - which means we can do neat things like kilometer long scars from ancient magical battles, oceans which host sunken cities, high mountains which are host to dragons, etc. 7. Are there going to be monstors? As in, non pc races, not NPC's but just things that wander around doing whatever it is that monsters do with their time. Thanks everyone! Ben |

These are my ideas on Bens ;o) On Fri, 22 Jun 2001, Ben Gerber wrote: > 1. Will all, most or some of the races be based around home cities when the > game is first launched? Has there been much discussion on the background of the world > (politics/religion/racial emnities) politics could come later, religion when the entities get bored and need a imaginary leader, and well racial, thats going to happen. Players are the other races, nothing of black/white loke there is here in normal life, but the new ones in here, slavery will happen to the weaker (slave to your master, to your leader ie. being a soldier, slave to your god and go on Holy cruisades, or killing in the name of your god.. But yes, I think some of these things need to be thought of beforehand ;o) > 4. Given the world ecology, has anyone given thought to what happened with > Ultima Online and their animals and trees? "A flock of chickens enters the room" <kill chicken> "chicken runs as distraction, but the others turn on you and fight" "Your camping in the forrest and a branch falls and takes out a few of your men" This last thing happends here in Oz sometimes, you should know you never sleep under Gum trees, you never know when the BIG limb will fall, and where it will fall too... sometimes crushing a car, caravan, with or without the occupants. > 6. I'm assuming this is entirely a fantasy scenario - which means we can do > neat things like kilometer long scars from ancient magical battles, oceans > which host sunken cities, high mountains which are host to dragons, etc. I hope this is possible, I havn't really played those GFX type games like Ultima, but I really enjoyed the textual ones like EotL ;o) > 7. I really hope there will be monsters, with a projected land area, those monsters could band together and create their own little hunting parties ;o) Imagine, your party is walking along a track, and get ambushed by a group of them.. |

Maybe the cities could be positioned so that similar races were closer to each other? For example, going from west to east, the cities shouldn't be elves-dwarves-pixies-minotaurs-humans, but more like minotaurs-dwarves-humans-elves-gnomes-pixies >> 4. But of course perhaps not as fast as a city of 1000000 people would want :) No really, in my idea is to set Arianne World with real rules, but a fantasy backend. If you take down tree, it won't rain and soon your land will be a desert... but then my gods kill all your race to restore the power of nature to fertilize the land. :-) We should test different approach later...
