Hi, A new release is already in the launching ramp ( one week or two far ) and I think that we should perhaps fixs some "bugs" that the actual game has. a) Changing zone makes sheep appear near you. So should you be near sheep before being allowed to change zone? b) Same problem with logout. This bug is explotable at Tor'Koom... and easy way of earning 2000XP c) Own sheep and Leave sheep can be abused, all the sheeps on map will be owned by someone. d) Sheeps will start costing money. e) Logout on combat should be denied? f) We need to balance game :) It is hard for lvl 0 and too easy for lvl 20 g) Quests! We need quests. Items will open a whole new universe of quests. On Sunday 26 I will be giving an e-conference about game developing using Arianne. http://www.midsevewebfest.com/index.php/articles/docs/33 Regards, Miguel |

Anyway to write a client you should instead extend ariannexp at ( marauroa.client package ) as it will be easier to do and you get all the updates for free :) I suggest you to check stendhal or jmapacman. |

Let me understand well... Do you mean that it defines some "Geographical" details or its related to the game's logic? So, will it be used as trigger for some action when the player walk over some tiles, or it will affect the game just from the graphical point? For now just the graphical point, since the modified tiles will also feature some opacity, so grass with different shade will be easier to make. It's up to miguel if he wants to add other features like splushing sounds (when we have sounds) to water tiles or sand rasps on a desert tile. > Also I am working on some big changes to the tilesets, in hopes of > making it easyer to find the correct tiles and to remove duplicates of > the same tiles, so please keep in mind that you might have to remake > half your map after the release containing these features is made. Considering that we will have to change the tileset, i fear that the entire map will need to be redone... :) heh, yes true... but I will also remake all the maps that is in the current release of stendhal, so they will use the new tiles... ;) |

I think it is a good/wise move. |

Ok, first of all, I want to say that I have added a new terrain layer, so the new lineup of the layers and what they shud be used for is Entity layers [mapname]_collision <-- used for collision detection [mapname]_objects <-- used for NPC's, monsters and other game objects Graphic layers [mapname]_3_roof <-- used for things that shud be showned over your character [mapname]_2_object <-- used for items like flowers, ladders, chairs or tables [mapname]_1_terrain <-- used for grass/sand/water edges and mountains [mapname]_0_floor <-- used for defining what type of environment it is All the graphic layers can actually be used any way you wish, as long as it "looks right" in the editor (exept the roof layer that is drawn above your character) but I would like all people that is working on maps to try and use these borderlines, cause it will get easyer for other to make modifications to it and it's the way maps will be implemented in a near future. Also I am working on some big changes to the tilesets, in hopes of making it easyer to find the correct tiles and to remove duplicates of the same tiles, so please keep in mind that you might have to remake half your map after the release containing these features is made. If your interested in getting the current "beta tilesets" or adding/discussing some other improvements to the map format please contact me on the freenode irc channel #arianne Regards Anders Asplund aka danter |
