Okay, I've got the debugging stuff working (upgraded to the latest gdb), and after fixing a minor server bug, for the first time I was able to move around an do a few things in the 2d client. I've got a few questions: 1. My laptop doesn't really do OpenGL, so if I want to develop for Arianne, it would probably be working on the 2dclient. Are people actively opposed to work progressing there? Alternatively, how would people feel about my developing a text client, both as a proof-of-concept for the versatility of the Arianne protocol (if it is, indeed, versatile) and as a simpler way of finding bugs in the server code? 2. What's the status of features like character creation? Are those things tied to the design of the Arianne GAME or to the Arianne ENGINE? For example, one of the features listed on the web site is being able to have different races. It occurs to me that not all game may need to make use of this feature, and others may need more and different character attributes. Since the game data is (or can be) stored as XML, why not have some type of game-specific DTD for character creation that gets sent to the client when a player needs to create a new character? 3. What's going on with the web site? Do you guys need anyone to go through and update / remove broken links? I know that the lack of documentation / necessity of registering with SourceForge before I could read any documentation kind of ticked me off. Let me know.
