Unfortunately there is a number of issues, which makes this a lot of work:

  • the database model uses charnames instead of IDs for foreign key relationships. So we cannot just rename an entry in the character table without updating a lot of other tables, some of them are several gigabytes in size.

  • charnames are stored directly in the character-object of other players (buddy and ignore list). A newly created character with the same name will be see as buddy/ignored by other players.

  • some people use low level characters to bank items (although we don't like that, its probably not a good idea to delete those characters)

  • house ownership and arrest warrents are stored in zones
