Currently when blood setting is turned on blood splatters while fighting ents, golems, and other non-animal creatures. It would give the game a better feeling to have other debris such as leaves, rocks, wood splinters, etc.
your idea sounds quite good to me. Maybe a mix of both, blood and special flying stuff, might fit well for showing that these creatures are alive in a way and just teh flying stuff with the blood settings turned off :)

It's now possible to define alternative types of blood. In creature.xml:
<blood name="green" />
"blood" is optional and defaults to "red". If it is specified, it has to be defined directly above "<corpse>".
I created green blood for ents for testing. But that may need some improvements.
