Dual rates can be used to reduce or increase the total amount of throw of gimbals. By setting a low rate on aileron, for example, you can limit the effect of full aileron input, effectively making it less sensitive. By increasing it (up to 140%) you can increase sensitivity. Usually it is possible to switch between two settings using a toggle switch or the flight mode switch. A low rate can be used in normal mode for precise hovering, and a high rate for stunt mode.
