I was working on a new power distribution box. I did not notice the stepper motor was not plugged in to 12v. The focuser was powered via USB and I then plugged in the 12v DC. (Was not thinking).

Now focuser motor just makes a sound when move button pressed. Also focuser seems to reset.

Any recommendations where to start checking/troubleshooting?

I did verify the 12v DC is working

    Arduino Nano

    DRV 8825
    LCD
    Temp probe

    Best,
    Steven

    Hi Steven

Can you connect to the focuser using the Windoes app?
If you can connect and get values it would appear the Nano is fine.

    In a scenario like
    1. Stepper motor not connected
    2. User applies USB and 12V
    3. user then attaches stepper motor

Is pretty much guarenteed to do damage to the stepper driver chip DRV8825. In that case I would replace the drv8825,

    In a scenario like
    1. Motor is connected
    2. USB cable is connected
    3. user then turns on 12V

then that is ok. Should not blow anything.

In all other cases to troubleshoot a stepper motor issue for a myfocuserpro2 controller, watch this video
