    Hi,
I built the electronic for a friend and were getting to understand how the unit works. He wanted to use it for astro-photography but also have the ablity to use it visually. So I made it with the button options along with the temperature probe and LCD screen. All seems to work well but we are trying to understand when the coil power is turned off. In the MyFocuser App it is unchecked and the text on LCD shows that it is off but when we use the buttons to move the motor, the power is still on to the coils when the button are released. Is the coil power only turned off when the motor is controlled via the APP and not the buttons ? I have check the connection from D8 on the Nano to the Enable pin on the Easydriver baord and there is no problem there. We are using the 172_DRV8255_HW203 firmware.

                          All the Best,
                             - Dave

I'm still a bit confused. If the coil power is OFF when I use the push buttons will the power be turned off to the motor when the buttons are released ? Right now that isn't the case and with the power being off the motor still has power to the coils all the time.
    Many thanks.

                - Dave

I read this thread with some interest because I am having issues with the coil power setting.
I am using the current V1 firmware and windows control app on 2.03 stripboard hardware wth the PG27 motor/gearbox and regardless of the state of the coil power setting it never changes state. I tested with V2 firmware and all is fine but I need the Moonlight protocol for use with a raspberry pi Indi Server.( the Stellarmate) I took a look into the firmware souce code for an easy fix and failed, software is not my strong point :) At this point the unit seems to work as intended but it would be really nice not to have to burn up power hile the focuser is stationary. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

    Dave and Rob
I believe I have found the cause and would like you to try an updated firmware attached.
    Regards

Wow that was quick Robert. I loaded your revised firmware and the unit works as I had expected, with the coilpower checkbox cleared the motor state is normally disconnected and arms when a move command is recieved and returns to idle after te move. Perfect!
Thankyou for taking the time to investigate and update.
    Cheers
    another Robert

PS on connecting to the indiserver the focuser is no longer recognised. I will investigate further.
    PPS. resolved. pebcak
