I've got MFP2 mocked up and working on my workbench. I bought the 27:1 nema 17 motor but I think I'm going to go with a regular Nema 17 pancake stepper. It seems to have more than enough torque.
I notice the stepping can be a little rough with both steppers so I might try the diode solution to see if it smooths it out a little. Microstepping at 1/8 smooths it out a lot, and dialing in the current has helped but its still a little rough, but not too bad.
Can the diodes go on any two wires as long as one's on the A and the other on the B coil. (I think coil is the correct term) ?
Thanks.

In terms of motor movement, have you tried altering the motorstep delay as shown in the PDF
or here in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5wK81s87Lg
which can really help. It should smooth out any roughness.
The diode solution: Best for using the diode smoother boards readily available on ebay. Comes with all the cables etc and works a treat. I have not built one out of diodes but it is straight forward enough.

Hi Andrew
I am not a fan of micro-setting.

Yes, BOTH coils will need diodes. Only needed on one wire of the pair, 8 diodes in total
