Yes, so if there was 2000 steps per revolution, then that is 500 steps becomes 0 start and then maxsteps - 500 for the end.
This gives you some safety margin in case there is slippage or other problem. I always test this a number of times at slow speed first. When I am sure that it is ok, I then switch to fast speed and test again a number of times that all is ok.
