What gerber package should I be using for the DIY focuser?

HI, I have been reading the 200 pg document and looking at the files trying to figure out which package I should be using. There are so many versions, variations, and updates that I am a bit overwhelmed. I would like to build the DIY focuser using the DRV8825 driver, maybe add a display one day and manual push buttons. Doubt I'll ever go wireless.

I would like to send the gerbers off to get boards made, I just don't know what the current or best version is to use.

    Thank you.

    Paul

Thatr is why everyone needs to read the focuser basics PDF first pg 29-36 of pdf

When you do the maths for scope, that will give you a clear direction to choose the type of stepper motor you need and values such as stepmode, maxsteps and step size,

There is a spreadsheet on the site that helps in this process.

Other questions are lile what are youse skills. Can you solder compoments on a PCB. Or are you comfortable wiring things togther such as the solderless version.

I would start with the basic questions, telescope, focal length and f-ratio. Type of focuser, is it rack and pinion or the crayford type?

What is the weight of the imaging train - filter wheel, rotator, camera etc. This will determine the torque you will need.

Also how good is your mount? there are balance decisions to be made due to the extra weight of the focuser unit and stepper motor. The positioning of that determines balance and being on the rear end of the scope this has a more imbalance/ (Sorry I always tend to think of a refractor - )

There really is a "stuff this" moment when one builds a focuser and on the first test it faults due to those :questions: that were never asked up front. That occurs by choosing the wrong stepper motor and configuration.

I would strongly recommend you dont buy the cheaper 3V 2A type motors used in 3d printing.

happy to work through the issues of you want.

    regards
    Robert
