The old Wayback Machine rewrites these link tags on the server side, before transmitting to the clients. I believe this is because JS modification of this during page load has no effect. Not positive, but should be easy to test. I just added a feature about 2 weeks ago to the new Java Wayback Machine to do this rewriting on the server side. (also does FRAMEs, and a couple other tag types, too..)
