I've been testing the WOLAgent on our remote site across our site to site connection and it works fine at waking up the remote systems. The only thing that that I can't resolve (if it's possible) is that the WOL Client software show's the remote PC always online so I guess it's picking up the status of the server running WOLAgent not the PC itself. Is there anyway to resolve this?

Thansk for your reply. I dont have xml files. Only files like these Machines.XmlSerializers.dll, Machines.dll etc. I use a dll editor but cant find the line method in these files. My version of WOL Aquila is 2.12.2

  • BasilDane BasilDane posted a comment on discussion Help

You can edit the database manually and accomplish this. The file is simple XML, and by default, it is located at C:\ProgramData\Aquila Technology\WakeOnLAN\machines.xml You will want to change Method to 1 for each machine. For example: <method>1</method>

Hello everyone, Im using since a week the Wake on lan tool. When i click on a computer and then properties and then wake up tab. Then the default setting for "send WOL to" is broadcast. See also the attachment. Because we have so 1000 computers i dont want to change manual the setting to FQDN/IP for every computer. Where can i change the settings that the default setting will be FQDN/IP ? Thanks already for the help !

  • Francisco Ramirez Francisco Ramirez posted a comment on discussion Help

Hello friends I have the following panorama: I have the computers configured correctly for the Shutdown task, if I execute the manual task, everything works correctly. The problem is when the task is executed with Task Schedule. Automatic task if activated but the computer does not shut down. Manually if it does but automatically does not. Computers are added to a domain and the WOL computer is within the domain with the same network I appreciate the help they can give me. Best Regards.

I just realized how confusing this must be, there are a lot of options. So let's break this down to managable steps. First let's start with two machines, call them source and destination. You don't need to install any software on the destination, but just for testing, let's install WOL on both. That way you can run the listener on it to see if it's receiving packets. Send a wakeup command to the destination. Make sure the listener receives it. Then try actually waking it up from power off. For this...

  • BasilDane BasilDane posted a comment on discussion Help

The agent would be installed on a server that is always on. You only need one agent. Are you having trouble? To set this up, you need to test one step at a time. First make sure it works on a local network. Then try sending directly to the agent. Then try to the agent from outside your lan. Use the "listener" function to verify you are receiving wol packets.

  • Hans Feenstra Hans Feenstra posted a comment on discussion Help

I saw your flow at the website. One more question, the agent can't be on the same computer that will be turned on? I have a network with multiple computers that all need to be controled bij WOL. Can i install the agent on all the computers so if one is done the other one will boradcast it? And what if all computers are down in the network than the agent wont work right?

  • Hans Feenstra Hans Feenstra posted a comment on discussion Help

Allright than you. I will try your solution

  • BasilDane BasilDane posted a comment on discussion Help

You configure WOL to send the packets to the router outside address. Then you configure the router to forward port 9 to the host that has the Agent running on it. Then the agent will receive the packet and broadcast it for you. I have a simple diagram on the agent's webpage that may help.

  • Hans Feenstra Hans Feenstra posted a comment on discussion Help

Yeah, sorry it was a typo. Yes that is what i ment to say. I would like to send a packet from outside the local network. Throught a router, but i wont work when i forward the UDP packets on port 9 to the specific server. And i cant set the port forwarding to the local boradcast ip. On your site they say that I should use the agent. What should i configure in the router when using the agent?

  • BasilDane BasilDane posted a comment on discussion Help

I assume you mean 192.168.178.255, not .55? .55 is not a broadcast address. I need more information about what you are trying to do. I think you are saying you want to send WOL packets from the internet, outside of your LAN, to your router, forward them to a server running Agent, then to the local network. Is this correct? Your router would be configured to forward the port 9 packets directly to the server running agent. For example, 192.168.0.8. NOT a broadcast address. The router probably cannot...

Hello, I used your program to turn pc's on and off. Locally it worked. But when i follow your installation guide about using a router. It wont work anymore. Could you help me to makes this work? And i configured my WOL client like: Mac address: mac address of server Send wol to: Broadcast Ip Broadcoast: 192.168.178.55 (My broadcast ip nside the network) FqDN / IP: my outside ip Port: 9 TTl: 128 Repeat:1...

there was no rule for WakeOnLan Command Line , so for making sure nothing is wrong with the rules i added inbound and outbound rules for it with no restrictions . but nothing changed .

  • BasilDane BasilDane posted a comment on discussion Help

OK. Please go to your firewall advanced settings, check the rules for WakeOnLan and WakeOnLan Command Line, make sure the command line is able to send packets out.

  • mohammad riazi mohammad riazi posted a comment on discussion Help

OK , for making sure everything is alright , i send the package using GUI and i receive it at the remote PC ( i see it in the listener window) . then i try sending the package with Command line with both machine name and mac address options and nothing received at the remote PC . if it is any help , i tried sending the magic package with a UDP Utility and as you would expect , the remote PC wakes up . and i already checked the "simple TCPIP services" and it was not checked .

  • BasilDane BasilDane posted a comment on discussion Help

Just a side note, you asked about other things using port 9. Please check if you have "simple TCPIP services" running. https://wol.aquilatech.com/help/troubleshooting/listener.html

  • BasilDane BasilDane posted a comment on discussion Help

i need to understand better. Can you turn on the remote machine and run the listener on it. Make sure the WOL packets are getting to the remote machine. That is step one.

  • mohammad riazi mohammad riazi posted a comment on discussion Help

the returning message is this : WakeOnLan Command Line 2.11.18.0 waking up mac: 90:e6:ba:0d:52:b9 but nothing happens, but when 'listener' windows is open , the same message (on cmd)appears and the remote pc wake up

  • mohammad riazi mohammad riazi posted a comment on discussion Help

No error , and i test the MAC Address option too , same thing.

  • BasilDane BasilDane posted a comment on discussion Help

Does that return a message? An error? Please try using the MAC address instead of -m nas. If that works, then we have a problem with the command line finding your database.

My mistake. Apparently Google directed me here, not your website. It was Windows's firewall that was blocking the incoming packets, so WOL Agent never got them, thus no broadcasts. Adding a rule to Windows firewall solved that. (I forgot that Wireshark taps in before the firewall, that's why I was confused to see the incoming unicast packet but not the outgoing broadcast.) All is good. Thanks for the cool tool.

Hi, I am not sure if I can reply to this as I don't even have a source forge account anymore (for years now). Yes, this is normal. You cannot NAT to an address to wake up the machine because when the machine is off it has no IP address. You can use the WOL Agent to run on a server on your net, and it will broadcast the wol packets to your lan like a repeater. Please contact us on github or look at wol.aquilatech.com for more information. From: Joseph Dupre [mailto:jdupre@users.sf.net] Sent: Monday,...

I am able to wake up a particular machine with the Wake On LAN tool on my LAN, so I know I have the BIOS and Windows 10 settings enabling WOL.
