APRSConsole Steve Buer N2MKO $Id: README.txt,v 1.1 2010-12-16 16:21:03 buer Exp $ ---------------- Section I: Overview APRSConsole is a text-mode application for operating fixed or portable APRS stations on UNIX/Linux Section II: Design Goals 1. Simplicity APRSConsole implements a subset of the APRS specification. The ability to send and receive concise and human-readable information is given preference over advanced features like data compression or graphics. 1.5 Fast Setup / Flexibility APRSConsole is designed as a highly flexible program for data collection and information reporting. There are numerous stand-alone and web-based applications that excel at gathering and displaying APRS reports. They can even be used in conjunction with this software. However, the main use-case of APRSConsole is: (fix later) * Install Linux and APRSConsole on any derelict workstation or laptop * Connect a KISS TNC and optionally a GPS * Begin transmitting information and communicating with other tactical stations The objective is to have a working system installed and on the air in one hour. 2. Portability APRSConsole is designed to run on any UNIX-like operating system. The only hardware requirements are a serial port, a KISS TNC, and optionally a GPS. 3. License This software is free and distributed under the GNU Public License 4. Author Steve Buer N2MKO n2mko@aprsconsole.arpoison.net
