Packaging Appupdater as a PortableApp would alleviate the need to use the registry of the local machine and there would be nothing to "uninstall" later.

Repository downloads would need to go into an Appupdater subdirectory (currently the default) so if the user deletes the \Appupdater directory, everything is deleted at once to leave a "cleaner hard drive". This would also allow a user to have apps already downloaded to portable media and be able to run and update the local machine. (user is at relatives house with dial-up...no need to download anything)

Appupdater already has a non-registry (portable) install option.

The cache directory is already configurable with the config file options. I'm not sure if a relative path will work here. This might be worth adding as part of the installer when the portable option is used.

I've started trying to do this, but I'm having issues because the supporting .dlls aren't in the same directory as the .exe application. This is a big problem.

This has been added to trunk. The next release will have a PortableApp version.
