Warning: No default memory manager

When running "repair permissions" under AppleJack I get
the message, "Warning: No default memory manager".
I know this is not a problem with AppleJack itself. But I can't find any information about what this means or how to fix it.
My iMac has been running very slowly and frequently applications freeze up and have to be restarted.
Thanks for any help.

What OS are you running, and what kind of machine? Also, how much RAM do you have?
Does AppleJack continue to run fine, or does it crash?
There is some discussion on this here: http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/archive/macosx-admin/2004-March.txt
Just load the page and follow the discussion by searching for the text "memory manager"
