Permissions goes into a loop

the permissions repair function starts normally enough but when the fan kicks into high speed the screen displays this message. " PowerManagement emergency overtemp signal. Going to sleep! Over and over and over until 'puter shuts down. It does run step 1 ok but it 'crashes on v.1.5 and also on 1.6. during step 2.
I'm running a power tower G5 on OSx 10.5.8
if you search the bugs tracker and forums you'll see numerous similar reports. sor far, in every case, a UPS power supply was connected to the computer. so perhaps check that first.
There is no UPS of any sort involved. I did search the archives and nothing matched what is happening.

G5s seem to have this problem with power management and their fans, alot.
If anyone knows a way to help a G5 manage its CPU, temperature, and fans, while in single user mode, please post something here. Thanks.
As an additional note. when I was running version 1.4x the fan would slowly build up speed but the error message of emergency overtemp never appeared.

What version of the Mac OS were you running when you were running 1.4.x?
probably 10.4x. It was a while ago so I don't remember the specifics

So judging from the lack of response can I assume that there is no previous experience with this particular situation? And that there isn't a solution either?
Just wondering…

Yes, unfortunately, until G5 Power Macs are taught by Apple how to deal with single user mode, there is not much we can do. From what I gather, things were at their worst on 10.5, so an SL upgrade might help.
Damn, I sure looks like the G series cpu's are being left behind at an accelerating rate.
Well, thanks for the effort everyone.
