Using "not subscribed" should cause that they will not receive emails
any more. They are not deleted from database nor sent to Trash bin, this
has to be done by hand. You can search for people having "not
subscribed" set and move them to the Trash.

There is another possibility, using the unsubscribe link (email alias
_#UNSBFORM), which has the form of alerts.shtml?au=ABCDE, and which does
the same: sets how often to "not subscribed".
