[Apc-aa-coders] Import / Export backward compatability

Does anyone think that sliceimport and export are being used for 
storing data over a period.

I'm wondering, because it would make life easier if I could break 
backward compatability - the code is in such poor condition, that 
being able to change the output format and corresponding input 
processing would be much simpler if I don't have to handle older 
versions.

My assumption is that people are
a) Moving data from site to site pretty much instantaneously, i.e. 
they export, process then import.
b) that systems at both ends of the link can typically be assumed to 
run current versions of apc-aa.

I'm only making these assumptions because the code appears to be 
mostly non-functional, so I can't imaging someone is using it for 
archiving / backup purposes.
