I'm doing some work on the flexible Ids that we discussed.

Looking at view.php3, it is very strange in the way it Counts hits - 
where parameters are passed with cmd[]=x-vid-123-456 -

it increments the first item in the view, but not the others, this is 
going to make the first item look much more popular than the others?

Maybe this should be a parameter of the view, overridable in the 
code?  So for example as a site editor I might consider that showing 
a list of headlines didn't count as a "display", but showing the 
abstracts did?
