I recently had to reinstall apbs on a cluster using Red Hat 7.3. I
thought I'd post my installation notes. These instructions are for a
local install, as I did not have root access.
Install a recent version of readline, as the one that comes with the
OS has an incompatibility with apbs. I installed version 5.0 in
$HOME/software (using ./configure --prefix=$HOME/software).

Make sure the following are defined. I put them in
my .bash_profile. Change FETK_SRC and FETK_PREFIX to suit your
setup. The LD_LIBRARY_PATH must be set for apbs to run (either set
it globally as I have, or be a better person and define it locally in
a shell script that calls apbs.)
Install maloc and apbs as usual.
