Dear APBS users,
If you are no stranger to the "ObjectMapLoadDXFile-Error: Unable to
open file!" error message in PyMOL APBS Tools, then the following is
There are 4 cases which may cause the ObjectMapLoadDXFile-Error when
using the APBS_TOOLS plugin with PyMOL:
1. Space in APBS binary path.
2. Space in Temporary File Locations --> APBS input file path.
3. Space in Temporary File Locations --> Temporary DX file path, this
is not a problem if users take the default directory & file name.
4. Space in "Choose Externally Generated PQR" file path.
The easiest easiest solution is to make sure your paths for APBS
binary and pqr file(s) contain no spaces.
We have developed a fix for cases 1 and 2, which will hopefully be
useful to APBS users.
To apply this fix, just copy the attached file to replace
pymol/modules/pmg_tk/startup/apbs_tools.py in your PyMOL installation
A brief explanation of the changes: in the command line, we know
something like this does not run:
/Users/username/tmp/apbs/b in/apbs apbs.in (there is a space
between "b" and "in", it looks like a command with two arguments)
however this should run just fine:
"/Users/username/tmp/apbs/b in/apbs" "apbs.in" (putting the
binary path and input path in quotes)
The above fix is doing exactly the same thing here (putting quotes
around APBS binary file and input file). This fix is tested on PyMOL
Please let us know if you have further problems with
ObjectMapLoadDXFile-Error, or send your questions to apbs-users. Thank
