Dear APBS Community, I appologize in advanced for this very dumb question. I am running SUSE = 10.1 on an AMD64. When running the rpm for apbs-tools, I get the following error= : error: Failed dependencies: /usr/bin/python2 is needed by apbs-tools-0.4.0-1.x86_64 I have python2 symlinked to python2.4 which is in /usr/local/bin/. Can I believe that python works fine since it is fundamental to so many other p= rograms like gnome? I also did an rpm --rebuilddb to make sure that my rpmdb was= not out of sync but still no luck. What is it that I need to do? Thanks, Seth Georgia Institute of Technology |

Hi Seth -- That should work fine; I don't think we use any advanced Python features that would care which particular 2.x version of Python you're using. I'll Cc Todd Dolinsky (our Python guru) for confirmation. Hi Seth - Nathan is correct; the Python wrappers for APBS should work with any Python 2.* installation. You don't need to install the apbs-tools package unless you're planning on using one of those tools - otherwise the standard APBS RPM works fine. I'm not too familiar with how SUSE handles RPM dependencies, but you might want to try hard copying the Python binary to /usr/bin/python2. If that fails you could always compile the tools source - it's fairly straightforward and well documented on the APBS web page.
