I am trying to imitate the "Tube" tool to create a tool that will convert a planar curve to a flat arrow.
How about extruding a straight line along the curve?
Thanks for your response, Peter. Actually I was going to ask something else, when the internet connection failed :-) Now that the connection is back, here is my full question: I want to write a script/java class to automate the process. This is the visualized workflow:
1. Draw the curve (planar)
2. Select it.
3. Invoke the tool.
4. Specify details like width and head size.
5. Click OK, and the arrow is created and added to the scene.
I can achieve the effect using an external scripting language that produces an OBJ file that I can import. But I want to integrate the process with AoI using Groovy or Java.
Also, your idea of extruding a straight line along the curve will only produce the tail of the arrow, and not the head.
Thanks a lot.
That shouldn't be difficult at all. You should start by reading the scripting tutorial: http://www.artofillusion.org/docs/scripttut/index. That will give you an overview of what you need to do, and some examples to work from.
