Today I installed AoI and followed the hourglas-tutorial.

I had the top and bottom plates along with the cylindric sticks connectinc them, when the tutorial encouraged me to have a closer look and rotate the model.

Suddenly my KDE was killed:

Apr 14 12:28:01 Linux-Host kdm[3188]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly

Perhaps, this is a bug in OpenGL?

There is a very special condition. Because I only have a 1024 pixel wide display I enlarged the Window to about 1300 width to have the object selection on the right side available. I was not able to shrink the 4 view panels smaller than 1024 together. So I was constantly dragging the window from left to right, back and forth, to access the toolbar and the object-panel.

Versions:
AoI 2.4.1
Linux 2.6.18.8-0.1-default
openSUSE 10.2
KDE 3.5.5 "release 45.2"
GTK gtk2-2.10.6-24.2
Java 1.6.0_01-b06

Now, that I try to, I cannot reproduce the crash. But there were more strange things going on. During installation I selected German, and the texts appeared in German, but looking in the preferences, I had Danish marked. So I changed it to German and was notified, that it would not take effect, until I close the window.

Furthermore, the tooltips for the buttons in the toolbar (move, rotate, ...) did show behind the front-view next to it. (right now, the show on top as expected)

Any idea, what might have cause the crash?
Can you please make the minimum-size for the views smaller, so that I can fit AoI on my screen?

Forget about the tooltips ... it seems randomly obscured by the view, which would make for an extra error.

To reproduce the crash, draw a simple cylinder, unmaximize the window and drag it slightly offscreen, so that a part of the camera view is gone, select rotate view and keep on dragging over the camera-view. It will crash KDE within 5 seconds.

Its not necessary to obscure part of the view. It crashes almost every time I use the rotate view, not depending on the screen geometry. I can sometimes rotate a little, but if I have bad luck, it crashes. And the longer I keep the mouse button pressed, the higher the probability!

Moreover, I onetime succeeded in shrinking the views through complicated series of maximizing and unmaximizing the window. But till now, I could not do it again :-(

Views, that are offscreen sometimes get a black background.

BTW: Was 4.2.1 a stable release or a beta???

This seems to be an issue with emulating OpenGL through mesa ...

Now, that I found out how to enable hardware acceleration, the problem vanished.

    Crazy
