I'm a past user of a free program called Datasafe Backup, that supports NTFS hard links.
This provides the ability to have multiple 'snapshots', or backups, date/time stamped, that each individually look like full backups, but any files that are unchanged from the previous backup are simply hardlinked to the previous backup, instead of creating a new copy of the unchanged file.
So, the benefit is many many 'full' backups, but at a cost of only a little more disk space than is required for one full backup.

I can see the merit in this feature, but this supposes that AnyBackup does backup snapshots over time, which it doesn't. The use case I'm developing for is large amounts of data where the goal is to keep one up to date copy that's synced periodically.
I have no problem with backup snapshots being added by someone to the program as an option + concept, but it's not something I'm likely to get around to doing. I'll leave this open in case someone else wants to take this and run with it.
