Some of the changes I plan for Anthem.NET 1.6.please send in your comments to the list or in Anthem.NET Open Discussion forum in SourceForge. 1. Stop embedding Anthem.js in the page in ASP.NET 2.0. In version 1.5 and earlier, there are some compiler directive (e.g. #ifdef DEBUG) that force the Anthem.js file to be injected into the page if you compile the project with DEBUG. This was meant to make debugging client side javascript easier, but it just confuses people. Besides, Visual Studio 2008 and FireBug are both much, much better at debugging javascript than anything available 2 years ago. Starting with version 1.6, Anthem will also include Anthem.js as a WebResource. 2. Make most controls update themselves if a property changes. I have added a small check to every Anthem control that implements IUpdatableControl. If the control's ViewState is dirty, then it will be updated after the callback. Most controls store they basic properties in ViewState (i.e. Button.Text or Label.CssClass). This change will eliminate the need for adding UpdateAfterCallBack most of the time. This, in turn, will make converting from standard ASP controls to Anthem controls a snap.they will just work. There are also some new controls, and a few new helper methods in Anthem.Manager. |

Hi Andy, Thanks for that. Server-side validation worked. But client-side validation still didn't work even after adding Anthem.Manager.IncludePageScripts=true both in firefox and IE. Any other thoughts why its not working? Does it work on your computer? Now I see it. Because you are adding the validation control during a callback, new javascript is added to the page during the callback. Normally Anthem.Manager ignores the scripts on the page. But you can tell it to include the scripts in the callback response like so: void dataList_EditCommand(object sender, DataListCommandEventArgs e) { dataList.EditItemIndex = e.Item.ItemIndex; BindList(); Anthem.Manager.IncludePageScripts = true; } Andy Miller |

I'm not sure why the client side validation is not running, but you can (should) also run the validation on the server by wrapping the update inside of a check for IsValid like so: void dataList_UpdateCommand(object sender, DataListCommandEventArgs e) { if (IsValid) { string name = ((System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox)e.Item.FindControl("name")).Text; string birthdate = ((System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox)e.Item.FindControl("birthdate")).Text; TestData.Rows[e.Item.ItemIndex]["name"] = name; TestData.Rows[e.Item.ItemIndex]["birthdate"] = DateTime.Parse(birthdate); dataList.EditItemIndex = -1; BindList(); } } Andy Miller |

Hello everyone, I was looking at the DataList.aspx example in new Anthem.NET .NET 2.0 examples. I want to use validation control in DataList control. So, I've put it inside <EditItemTemplate> of DataList control.I've also specified validation group. But it doesn't work. Any suggestions on how to make validation control work in DataList control. Below is part of the code where I've made changes for adding validation control: <EditItemTemplate> Name: <asp:TextBox ID="name" runat="server" Text='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "name") %>' /> <br /> Validation Message: <asp:RegularExpressionValidator ID="nameValidation" ValidationGroup="nametest" runat="server" ErrorMessage="ONLY ENTER NAME" ControlToValidate="name" ValidationExpression="^[a-zA-Z'.\s]{1,10}$" /> <br /> Birthdate: <asp:TextBox ID="birthdate" runat="server" Text='<%# ((DateTime)DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "birthdate")).ToShortDateString() %>' /> <br /> <anthem:LinkButton ID="update" runat="server" CausesValidation="true" ValidationGroup="nametest" CommandName="Update" Text="Update" /> <anthem:LinkButton ID="cancel" runat="server" CommandName="Cancel" Text="Cancel" /> </EditItemTemplate> I guess everyone has Anthem.NET examples for .NET 2.0. Just in case if someone need the full code for that page, let me know so that I can copy and send it. I tried to attach aspx file with this mail, but I had an error message from admin; so sent this message without the whole code. Just in case if someone don't have, I've attached the file with this mail. Thanks in advance, Ujjaval -- Ujjaval Suthar Mobile : +61 - 0431 152 757 |

Can you post the source for a simple example that demonstrates the problem? If you can, modify one of the sample pages that comes with Anthem (since we are all familiar with those). Hello Roman, Written explanations are very hard to follow. Can you put together a one page example (like the sample pages that come with Anthem) that demonstrates the problem? Then we could literally see = the problem on our own computers and probably find out what is going wrong. If you do this, please make the page as simple as possible. For example, = do *not* include formatting or tables, etc. unless they are required to = create the problem. Andy Miller Structured Solutions -----Original Message----- From: ant...@li... Hey all, I have developed a small application with couple of webforms using Anthem. It also uses some session variables. Now, the point is, when I access the application in any webbrowser and I leave it idle for over 20 mins. After that when I try to click on any button or do something, it gives me a javascript error with long page full of javascript. I think thats becoz of the Anthem javascript which are added to the webforms. Any ideas on how to handle this situation and display proper error messages to the user rather than chunk of javascript code or something like that? Thanks in advance. Your web form will need to keep track of whether the user control is part of the page or not (I would use ViewState), then re-add it during each callback: In the Button1 client event handler: AddUserControl(); this.ViewState["UserControlAdded"] = true; In the Web Form Page Load event handler: if ( null != this.ViewState["UserControlAdded"] && (bool) this.ViewState["UserControlAdded"] ) AddUserControl(); Andy -----Original Message----- From: Mike Weichert [mailto:mwe...@gm...] Sent: Tuesday, May 02, 2006 12:00 PM To: Andy Miller Subject: Re: [Anthem.NET-users] Adding controls at runtime... I understand that I need to readd the control during the callback, but I have no idea of how to go about that. Thanks for the reply! Are you adding either the user control or the anthem:button at runtime? If so, then I'd guess you are not adding again them during the callback. Andy -----Original Message----- From: ant...@li...
