does cppunit somehow support compilation under IRIX
on SGI machines?
If there is a known way I really need to know...
I'd very much appreciate any info on that.

I haven't heard any reports of use of cpptasks on IRIX.
It is likely that cpptasks could drive gcc on IRIX. However, use of the SGI
C++ compiler would probably require adding a compiler adapter. Typically
that is not very hard and a reasonable first approximation could be done
from documentation of the command line options. However, I wasn't able to
find any publically available documentation on the SGI compiler's command
I did see a snippet of an IRIX build file and it looked similar to gcc's
command line. You might try cloning a GccCompatibleCCompiler (like
IntelLinux32CCompiler, just search the code base for IntelLinux32 and add a
corresponding entries for SGICCompiler) and change "icc" to "cc". Then try
compiling stuff and tweak whatever command line options causes you problems
(running ant with -verbose is helpful to see the actual command lines
