Hello to anyone who is reading this, I had just recently joined the army and thus unable to focus on Animtutmaker, which I started a year ago. Because that a great deal of time and code were invested by me and by Eyal on this project, I don't want it to end up dead. This project has a lot of potential to help people use free software and it saddens me to see the development stopping. I have opened up a new Wiki <http://animtutmaker.wiki.sourceforge.net/>(which is a feature integrated in SourceForge), and started a couple of pages. We need at least as a beginning, someone that will copy the old wiki<http://animtutmaker.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/>to the new one <http://animtutmaker.wiki.sourceforge.net/>. And of course more people who will help build this project. Hopefully my status will change in about a year, and by then I might be able to restart working and investing on this project. For more info please read: http://animtutmaker.wiki.sourceforge.net/Help+Wanted Huge Thanks, Shlomi Israel. -- http://sijp.no-ip.info http://sijpart.no-ip.info please send me documents in open formats only, see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/no-word-attachments.html for more info |

Hi all (Eyal...): I want to make a home page for normal users, and make the wiki linked from there. The main idea should look something like this: http://sijp.no-ip.info/home_page.html and hebrew: http://sijp.no-ip.info/home_page.he.html I think making it a small Ajax program will be ideal. The content is still a draft. -- http://sijp.no-ip.info please send me documents in open formats only, see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/no-word-attachments.html for more info |

Whatever, you know that i don't know what i'm talking about (: . But I still think OpenGL is too much, for this kind of animation, all your trying to do is to move a cursor image form (a,b) to (x,y) in time, it shouldn't be that hard, or a thing that waste alot of resources, and make the computer run slow, even on weak computers. But, if Glitz or whatever would make it run faster or smoother, so i think it's a good idea. How come too much? it can be an option, as much as I understand it is posible using Glitz, so we do not need to change too many things. Another goal i'm after is efficiency. I want it to be fast and usable even with weak computers (it is directed towards power users from the comunity, so anyone who knows what to do, should be able to do it). Still, this is an option of Cairo, that can be enabled (anyway Animtutmaker should be extemly modular :) and configurable). Additionally, I have spoken with Andrea Cimitan (The author of Murrine GTK+2 Engine), he had told me that the cairo folks are now focusing towards optimizations, and less towards new features, so speed improvements should be seen in the next few months. An Idiot? nah... perhaps timeless (me too :) literally I have no time for anything :( ). Lately I checked the efficiency of the program, and noticed that with long animations it's quite slow. We need to figure out how can we improve the efficiency of this. It could be caused by the thumbnails list (probably). Additionaly, do you thinks it would be wise to add OpenGL support? for the animation, I mean. It will add to the dependecies quite a bit I guess, but it probably will be alot faster. -- http://sijp.no-ip.info please send me documents in open formats only, see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/no-word-attachments.html for more info |

Probably not *The Most* important thing: but so there will not be any problems with the name of the project. At first I wanted ATM, which is Animated Tutorial Maker. Because there are projects with similar names such as ``Asynchronous Transfer Mode`` and more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATM , I think we should embrace the name animtutmaker for short or Animated Tutorial Maker as the full name (I never was great with project names and as a proof : ``Shlomi Israely's Java Project`` == sijp :) ) -- http://sijp.no-ip.info please send me documents in open formats only, see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/no-word-attachments.html for more info |

Extremely cool! I'm sorry I'm not paying much attension to this project. I have end semester exams to finish, and a few things to do with the army, and the university is constantly generating for me extra problems... so sorry, I will try to put myself back on track as soon as I can. It looks great. Great job! I made the variable i in the delay loop to increment itself by 3 instead of 1. It was just for this example, so it will go faster :). I just found out why the animation was so slow, the flash exporter can't use a float delay yet so it casts it to int, and if delay is goes to 0 (like in the first movie), it changes delay to 1, i will fix this thing soon. |

And another Movie: http://sijproject.googlepages.com/geditcaptured22 this time nautilus (I made the animation a bit faster :)). I guess the color bugs are because of AIGLX I am testing at the moment... I'll have to take care of these bugs later... eMamo, notice the movement of the cusror, it doesn't go diagonaly, it moves verticaly - stops - and then moves horizontally (or maybe it's the other way arround...). -- http://sijp.no-ip.info please send me documents in open formats only, see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/no-word-attachments.html for more info |

Though still this is nothing more than an experiment, it was quite successfull. It's not that resource consuming, though there are some more improvments to make in that area. eMamo: for some strange reason the SWF movie is quite slow... how come? The movie can be seen here: http://sijproject.googlepages.com/geditcaptured2 On the same page there is a link for an archive containing the animtut. I will update the wiki soon :). And your (Shlomi) animation system works good, but has a problem with the delay, it takes much more time then it should take, because the cursor is not moving fast enough, and you wait till the cursor gets to his spot, and only then change move to next background. (crap, i just rememberd that i got to set up the markup text for the tooltips) |

whoohoo. I guess it works. Because I guess it's really alike the normal animation, try looking at the ATMWorkSpaceAnimator.py file, and get some ideas. The main idea there is to refresh many times with a 25ms delay, on each interval you move the cursor only slightly (how much to move it is calculated per each frame), when the cursor reaches its target, you change the background. This you need to do untill there are no more frames (ATMobjects) to render. The cursor animation system that I've made for the flash exporter, is pretty bad (I mean horrible). Any suggetions how to improve it? (yeah this message is sort of a test for the mailling list- but I realy need help) |
