Hi Julien It's much more easy than I wrote... You just have to copy your boot.img to Ai386/system/install and change a line in Ai386/install/menu.lst as follows: delete the line "chainloader +1" add the line "bootchain /install/boot.img" That's it! bg Till P.S. Hi Firstly, excellent work!! About to do a major install with ANI....all working great!! Got through most things, by searching the forums or ANI...when time allows, will be more than willing to contribute if possible..... I just have 2 small questions: - how do I trigger remote updates without having to put the boot floppy in? - I read in one of the forum posts, about a text file on the service partition that stores the answers to the questions when doing a new install (Computer name, resolution, etc), and that the presence of this file stops the dialog asking the questions again. Any links on the format of this file or other suggested means of stopping the dialog from appearing on update. Thanks very much in advance, and again, excellent work!! Fil |

The problem was located in the notation of the DN of the DHCP-option 201 (Organization Unit). The default container 'computers' in the Active Directory is another kind of container as a normal self defined organization unit. Therefore the string of the DHCP option 201 should rather be: 201 ani-domain name: cn=3Dcomputers,dc=3Dhannover-leasing,dc=3Dde _ Hagen > hi hagen, attached my patched postwin.pl > > i checked the ad for the existing machine account. > result: none there at all. > > -----Original Message----- > From: ha...@su... Normally the error message [LDAP_NO_SUCH_OBJECT] means, that either the O= U or that the account P2004-047 doesn't exist in the AD. If a computer account already exist in the AD, ANI deletes the entry in the AD first and then tries to join the machine to the domain. What's confusing me is, that postwin.pl tries to delete the account even the account doesn't exist. For a further investigation please send me your patched postwin.pl. Then you schould check out if you can find the machine entry in the OU ou=3Dcomputers,dc=3Dhannover-leasing,dc=3Dde. For this purpose you can us= e the tool ldp.exe. _ Hagen > of course the ani installer account in the DHCP settings is: > hannover-leasin\ani :-) > > -----Original Message----- > From: Reisdorffer, Julien > Sent: Wednesday, January 19, 2005 3:18 PM > To: 'ha...@su...' > Cc: 'ani...@li...' > Subject: RE: [Ani-users] Problems joining a domain Domain / finding the > DC > > > ok, i patched the postwin.pl an added /edited the following on my DHCP: > > 205 ani-installer-account: ahnnover-leasin\ani > 206 nt-dom: hannover-leasin > > Now i get the following error message: > > "Warning: Error deleting Account [P2004-047] at 364 > [LDAP_NO_SUCH_OBJECT] > See log for more Details." > > And here is the log: > > starting logging of postwin.pl at Wed Jan 19 14:18:27 2005 > > sending dhcp discover... > sent. > waiting for Offer... got a > packet. > PC Name: P2004-047 > Version info: Ani 1.1.0 > Release date: 2004-09-16 > > User class: > i386 share: \\serverhl31\Ai386 > Package share: \\serverhl31\APACK > Installer account: hannover-leasin\ani > Installer password: decrypted > Domain to join: hannover-leasing.de > Organization unit: ou=3Dcomputers,dc=3Dhannover-leasing,dc=3Dde > > filling local groups with local accounts: > adding [anithing] to local group [cdrom-users]: done > adding [anithing] to local group [floppy-users]: done > adding [anithing] to local group [usb-users]: done > done. > > joining domain with computer account P2004-047... > Warning: Error deleting account [P2004-047] at 364: [LDAP_NO_SUCH_OBJEC= T] > > terminated with exit code [7]. > > end logging of postwin.pl at Wed Jan 19 14:18:28 2005 > starting logging of postwin.pl at Wed Jan 19 14:21:54 2005 > > the ani account has domain admin rights. Hi all, in my setup i use boot media with PWFLAGS=2. maybe i'm a little stupid but i did not manage to create the cdrom because i need a matching boot sector to make the disk bootable. i took the one from the floppy but it fails to boot because some kernel modules are not found during bootup. can anyone give me instructions to create a modified boot cd? maybe the best thing is that the ani staff would put such a PWFLAGS=2 cdrom image on the ftpservers. if you run ani on samba PDC or NT4 domain then you need exactly such a cdrom, so i think a lot of people can save their time from burning their own boot media. simon |
