Main screen

Backup now: starts a backup right now. No sense in doing this before setting up the server (Server settings), but it is here for your convenience, since it is the most used button.

Stop backup: stops the currently running backup (if applies), either started by Backup now or automatically.

Status zone: shows information about the current or last backup, including the completed percent, the errors in the last backup, the date of the last completed backup...

Server settings: configure the server. See below.

Scheduled settings: configure the automatic scheduled backup (Gold only). See below.

Exclude list: configure the directories to exclude from the backup. See below.

General settings: some settings that does not fit in any other screen. See below.

Server settings

Backup SMB server (mandatory):the IP address or domain name of the computer where to make the backup. If you do not know how to configure your computer, use the guides in the menu for different operating systems.

Backup user: the user in the computer. It is usually needed, unless you are doing the backup to a shared folder with universal anonymous access (for example, in Windows XP Home), where it will fail if the user is provided.

Domain: the MS domain of the computer (usually not needed, unless in a corporate environment).

Password: the password for such user in the computer (usually needed).

Browse server: use it to test the settings and browse the computer (in the lower part of the screen). If you are unable to browse your folder here, you will be unable to make the backup later.

Destination folder: the destination of the backup. Either write it here or, much better, select it in the lower part of the screen after having clicked Browser server.

Server browsing: the shared folders in the computer. Choose one as destination or just write it in the text field.

Done: click Done or use the back key when finished.

Scheduling settings (Gold only)

Enable scheduled backup: if unset, backup is not automatically done.

Do backup every...: the minimun time between backups. 0 means to always do a backup at the given time. For example, use 7 to do a backup every week (if every other requirement is met).

...at: time to start the backup at. Usually, a time somewhen in the night is a good choice, for example at 1:00 (you will see a notification with the result of the backup when it ends).

Automatically turn on WiFi for backup: if set, WiFi is tried to be turned on before the backup (and turned off after). Notice that if not WiFi is available the backup will still try to continue unless Only on WiFi is set.

Only on WiFi: if set, the backup is not done if WiFi is not available. Very useful for not trying to do the backup on mobile data.

Only in the following WiFi network: if the name of the WiFi network is not the one given here, backup is not done. Very useful to do the backup when at home or in your corporate network, but not in guest networks (such as a hotel or so). Leave it blank to use any network.

Use current: copy the name of the current WiFi network to the textfield.

Done: click Done or use the back key when finished.

Exclude list

Backup of large SD cards takes long, very long. As a clue, you can suppose that, when the device is connected to a WiFi network and power, it would take more that half an hour to copy 1GB of data over WiFi (this is just an estimation; it depends on the WiFi speed, the card speed,... and takes usually longer if the device is not charging). 0 Backup is pretty clever, in the sense that it will not copy again files that has not been modified, so usually it will take shorter (known as "incremental backup"). But still, you probably want not to do backup of directories which content is expendable, such as your music, the ROMS for your emulators... and any other thing that is not original data.

This screen allows you to do so.

The main screen will show the list of directories that are marked to be excluded (empty by default). Use the Browse button to browse the SD card and select the directories to be excluded.

General settings

Remove on server: this setting configures whether an item (file or directory) removed on the phone will be removed on the computer. If unset, the item will be kept on the computer.

Abort on error: this setting configures whether the backup is aborted on an error or it tries to continue. Notice that even if it tries to continue, the errors are logged and shown in the main screen.

Plugged only: many devices perform much slower when running on batteries, and disconnet the WiFi after a few minutes no matter what the application requests. It is a decission of the manufacturer, not Google or us. Also, since it may take long, it drains the battery. This settings configures whether to try to do the backup if the device is unplugged. This is very useful if you use to do the backup during the nigh, while the device is left charging, but do not want to do it by mistake if it is not charging.

Quiet notifications: it configures whether the notifications to the status bar beep or not. Very useful if you schedule the backup to be done while you are sleeping.

Base path:if your external storage is not correctly recognized, you can choose it here (needed on some devices).
