#96 Request for bigger file size and less cluttered right panel.

Hi Mattes, thanks for the awesome plugin. I am using 1.13.49 in lastest npp. I was wondering if below could be inplemented. :

1. Making the plugin work for bigger files say ~ 500 MB.
2. Right side panel for adding filters is somewhat cluttered. It might look better with a minimal design.

NPP support large files since https://notepad-plus-plus.org/downloads/v8.3.3/
the plugin is synced with this sources and later since version 1.13 . The actual search function is the one in Notepad++. The plugin collects and merges the multiple search results to the result window. Except of the machine performance, there should be no restriction.
If there is something not working, please let me know.

Your point 2.) sound like you would have an idea how it could be less cluttered? I'm always interested in some proposals in form of a drawing or so.
The limitations in terms of UX are basically due to the restriction to minimal WINAPI usage idea.
Interesting extensions are always good to be reviewed.

Hi Mattes,

I am using npp 8.4.9 now and Analyze plugin version is 1.13. I loaded 292 MB log file in my 512 GB SSD thinkpad and it was slow.

The best reference regarding simple UI would be TextAnalysisTool.Net. Please visit below link and you would get what I am trying to say. I use that tool for handling large log files.

Aso the analyse results are now coming in white background. It would be great if you could make it follow editor colour.

Regarding the performance, I will make some profiling with log files in this size and check if there is something to improve. It was always my aim to provide good performance for big log files. I'll keep this ticket as response for this.

Regarding the hint to textanalysistool again thanks for the hint; never saw it before. There are some points I saw regarding UX which might be interesting:

1. drag n drop functionality. This is something on my list but fiddling with WINAPI List control does not make it too easy (I try to avoid OS dependencies and hence decided to not use .NET). This point is handled in Ticket 49 having not the highest prio ;-)
2. the editing of the pattern. I think it is always a pain to have popups for handling detailed information. This is the reason I made the edit embedded into the config panel.
3. the "main text" shows the coloring according to the pattern list configuration. This is handled in Ticket 63. The problem here is that NPP has coloring schemas defined on basis of the file type. I would interfere with this coloring, would have to override it. I did hesitate to do so, as this might be also confusing to the users, but the ticket is open, because I see still some interest in it. The point I got from your hint is to kind of "highlight the selected pattern" feature. I added this as a comment to this ticket.

Did I miss some hints you would see as points of consideration?

Regarding your comment for "It would be great if you could make it follow editor colour." I guess you think about dark mode? Yes, this is on my list with Ticket 85 and has I quite high prio for me to move forward. However, I have only very limited time to work on this project and hence it takes some time for this nice features.

Thanks for replying.
I was not exactly talking about pop up, rather the table in the right side panel.It has too many columns (active, order, search, bgcol, etc )and too many buttons (add, load, search, clear).

But my 1st wish is fix of ticket 85. ;)

Regarding the pattern list right side, in the version 1.13 allows you to maintain the column position and size via mouse drag. The once made this configuration it is persistent in your user config.
I hope this helps to at least clean up a bit.
