You need a special branch of Amis, plus some assorted stuff to even get started. I don't remember the details off the top of my head (Marisa: do you?) but if someone is interested in playing with this we could probably come up with a recipe. -- Jack Jansen, <Jac...@cw...>, http://www.cwi.nl/~jack If I can't dance I don't want to be part of your revolution -- Emma Goldman |

Did I not reply to this? I thought I did, but I can't find any record of it. Ok, here's the latest. 1. Linux: as of November 06, we ported the libraries of AMIS to python. We experimented a bit with the GUI, but ran out of time. I expect to revisit this project this spring/summer. Same for a Macintosh port. 2. Getting the latest sources: AMIS uses the Subversion (SVN) system provided by Sourceforge. Get an SVN client (I like Tortoise) and checkout https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/amis. If you want to be more selective, try the same URL as above but add on /trunk/amis, which will exclude all but the default (english) Language packs (biggg MP3-laden things) Then you'll need Visual studio 2003 and a handful of dependencies (Xerces, among others). Whaddya know, the INSTALL.txt file (comes with the source code) is not too out of date and should help you to build AMIS. Sorry for the delay and hope this answers your questions. Hi all, To accompany the release of AMIS 2.4, we are providing updated versions of all compatible language packs (see the list below [1]). The installers are a bit smarter about finding the right directory. The download link is given below [2]. Other than that, there are no big changes. Best regards The AMIS Developers at the DAISY for All Project Notes: 1. list of current language packs: Bangla, Hindi, Indonesian, Norwegian Bokmål, Tamil, Vietnamese; with experiments in Arabic and Urdu 2. Hi all, AMIS 2.4 test build is available from our website [1]. (Note that it has been online for about two weeks, and the only difference between the version from two weeks ago and version online now is that the installer is better now.) This latest test build is very close to the next stable release, which will be version 2.5 and is tentatively scheduled for the end of October. Improvements were made to the self-voicing interface and the general stability of AMIS, and the installer is much better for Windows 2000 users. Looking forward to your feedback Best regards The AMIS Developers at the DAISY for All Project Links: 1. http://amis.sf.net |

Hi all, I've moved the AMIS project repository from CVS to Subversion (SVN). All permissions for accessing CVS have been replaced by subversion permissions. Here is a list of commands and useful links: 1. Link to page about SVN clients: http://subversion.tigris.org/project_packages.html 2. Command to checkout code: "svn co https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/amis/trunk/FOLDER MODULE" 3. Hi everyone, There's a new test build of AMIS available on the website [1]. It's called version 2.2 (an aside: I'm expecting to call the next big release version 2.5). Some new stuff was added based on testing results and requests: - Default behavior is to stop reading when AMIS loses focus and resume upon regaining focus. - Section depth changing supported by Ctrl + Q (decrease) and Ctrl + P (increase). - The text window (HTML view) gets focus via Ctrl + A (new feature) and the navigation window gets focus via Ctrl + N (was always like this). - The main window title changes for basic view mode to include the text "basic view" As always, send us your feedback! Hi Anne, For us, the owner of all media rendering (including HTML) is SMIL. There still can be interaction within a media renderer (e.g., the HTML window), you just catch the events and handle them appropriately. An example is when the user clicks on a link pointing to a SMIL document, you programatically load that document upon receiving the link-select event. What extensions do you require on top of existing SMIL players to do what you need? Hi, We are stuck without a proper SMIL player that can interact with the Microsoft .NET environment. What is the player that you used? Do you mean that the entire content is running on the SMIL player, or that it is called only when necessary? We saw that you have refenced smil from the html file and vise versa. Who is the owner in this case, that is handling the text rendering or audio playing? Our application is not entirely in a DAISY book manner and neither an index of smil files. Since it is a Language Learning application, there are lots of times that text should be synchronised with audio, video and also animations. (like when presenting a dialouge..) That's why we thought of using SMIL to simplify the synchronising part, instead of devloplng flash content for everything. Our problem is to integrate the html and smil files. Players like the real player supports only a limited number of formats and some open source players are not supported by .NET. Thanks, Mindika >From: Marisa DeMeglio <ma...@di...> >Reply-To: ami...@li... >To: ami...@li... >Subject: Re: [Amis-devl] use of SMIL in AMIS >Date: Fri, 10 Mar 2006 09:19:27 -0500 > >Well, for us, the integration of SMIL and HTML is pretty simple. Well, for us, the integration of SMIL and HTML is pretty simple. The SMIL player is directing the presentation flow and whenever it needs to display some text, it notifies its owner. Then the owner tells the text renderer (in our case, an HTML window) to highlight the fragment "file.html#fragment". At the same time, the SMIL player has sent an audio src to an audio player (again, via the owner). How will your application work? Is it audio + HTML, like a DAISY book? or an HTML index of SMIL files? Feel free to send smil/html file samples if you want, that might explain it best. Regarding SMIL and HTML interaction, DAISY books use SMIL to control the display of its media objects. The SMIL instruction renders like this: play audio clip "xyz.mp3" from 2s to 4s, and highlight the text fragment given by "text.html#phrase1". What media types will you be using? If it is going to be audio synchronized with HTML, then this sounds like a pretty good candidate for being a DAISY book. AMIS supports Sinhala for its UI and also in content display windows. I wonder if there are any extra features (beyond standard DAISY book playback features) required by language-learning applications? Best regards Marisa Anne Silva wrote: > Hi, > > We are developing a language learning application for Sinhala which uses > smil to synchronize the multimedia content. Hi all, Just a note to let you know that AMIS has started releasing test builds. These can be installed alongside the stable version of AMIS. Downloads are available on the main page. While test builds won't be released every day, they are updated frequently. Please be aware that they could be unstable. If you decide to use an AMIS test build, your feedback would be of great value to us. Best regards Marisa -- Marisa DeMeglio Software Developer http://amis.sf.net DFA Project www.daisy-for-all.org |

I would recommend that most switch to the new amis-users list [1], which is more appropriate for receiving project announcements and discussing end-user issues such as bug reporting and general testing. And I'm found a little bit issues below. 1. Output Sound Quality. I don't know does anyone found this problem like me or not? I downloaded the book that its title is "Valentin Hauy - the father of the education for the blind" from ftp.daisy.org and open it via AMIS 2.0 output sound quality has some noise and not smooth, however I selected the same MP3 file inside the book to open via Windows Media Player 10 the sound output from Windows Media Player is still OK, 2. Open Dialog Issue. Should or not? The player pause the reading when open any dialog box in the AMIS 2.0 such as "Open dialog", "About dialog". 3. Link in Html file. In the same book, "Valentin Hauy" its HTML file has a link to other SMIL position, I think it should be skip the reading to the new position follow information in that link point into when user click that link. In my tested have 3 points, Best Regards, Tanakom. Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page |
