#887 link with .html page does not seem to work, when using Firefox plugin

Hello All,

We are graduate students at UW-Milwaukee working on a final project in SMIL for Multimedia Systems. We are using the Ambulant Firefox plugin for many of our SMIL presentations. Thank you for making this plugin available. We are facing some challenges and request your input. We are unable to get hyperlinks to work well. When we use the area tag to link to a URL, the current browser tab freezes and a new tab opens with the link. This is the behavior on Windows. On Mac, the hyperlinks do not open at all. ​

external linkage in npambulant works for Linux with Firefox,
when started from the command line
and the BROWSER environment variable is properly set.
On MacOSx 10.10.3 it doesn't work, because the common::embedder interface
has not been implemented in npambulant (file cg_mainloop.cpp), so
show_file (url) is a no-op.

Lowering priority because the original reporter seems satisfied with the
Linux workaround,
