Hi all,

after some months of inactivity, some work done and a lot to be done,  I'm
very pleased to announce that aMail is mutating to a much more complex and
feature rich project: TRex ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/trex/ ).

The objective is to build a framework for building  messaging solution,
ranging from the end user to gateways. Much of this is a work to be done,
and this project is yet in alpha stage (not to mention that the first
release was named "machinery" !!!) and a lot of info can be accessed via
CVS under the machinery/docs directory (basically it's the "aMail planning"
at http://amail.sourceforge.net/devel/plan.html a bit updated and with an
incredible view).

Of course, all of you that want to participate just drop me a note.

In the las announce was stated that "near the end of October aMail 2.1.1
will appear" on scene ... and we are in June, three months and a half
behind schedule =P

Don't panic we continue "on the move" with a lot of coding and lots of
stuff to do behind us.

near the end of October aMail 2.1.1 will appear on scene. 



It has many bug fixes and a few new features ... and is strong as usual !! 



We are deciding the future direction about aMail (don't panic, the goals are untouched) about the next step to do: security auditing, internal homework, etc.

[aMail-announce] aMail 2.1 on the road (announce #3)

Hi all, 



As you notice from the subject, aMail 2.1 has arrived !! 



There's news for everyone: users, developer, integrators ... 



This release is the first one to be developed under the SourceForge umbrella and, coincidently, some new things happened to aMail: 



- Broad audience intended: The multilingual support, added to this release, allows more people worldwide to use it, without rewriting the program in each new language to be deployed (just one module). 



- Modularization: As part of a broad audience intended, and looking inside aMail, each new feature added is carried out as a module. This permits that different functions are being carried out by different and individualized modules. In the near future each user would select the modules to use according to the intended specific use, allowing the use of each line of code in the program (no dead code to waste disk and memory space). 



Suppose you are a home user, then all e-mails, preferences, etc. will be stored in a group of files, but if you are a company offering mail hosting probably the storage of information and e-mail for hundreds of users is better accomplished by using a database: simply replace the files storage module with the proper for database use and voilá, you are using each piece of code. 



- Adaptability: Many times you want a new look or any customization to be carried out, but don't want to make any code change (simply you don't have the time to do it or don't know Perl). In this release the first step has been to implement a simple skin mechanism, that allows to change all icons. 



- Documentation: A User's Manual has been added. Basically the original aMail download page written by Alex Hart was reorganized, updated and accessed inside aMail (a new button supports this functionality). 



- Portability: More efforts are being devoted to testing on other platforms (mainly tested on Linux, OpenBSD and Windows NT), and a few bugs have been corrected to support them. 



Of course some bugs have been corrected, and the original version is being updated with bug fixes. For downloading aMail v2.1.0 take a look at aMail-stable package in http://sourceforge.net/projects/amail . 



Remember that the stable version is a fully functional, stabilized, and updated user documentation. The technical documentation (for developer, integrators, etc.) will be available as a different package.

[aMail-announce] aMail-original 2.0.2 ready (announce #2)

Hi aMailers, 



just a little interruption to give you news about aMail. 



A new revision of aMail original has arrived, with three bug fixes. You can download it from the aMail page, files section (http://sourceforge.net/projects/amail). 



More news are coming, and is about release 2.1. It's being developed, the aMail-stable package was created, and 2.1 revision will be ready near the end of September to allow you download the last stabilized aMail version. As usual the state-of-theart version can be download from CVS, and we encourage you to do it !!! 



The stable version is a fully functional, stabilized, and updated user documentation.



The technical documentation (for developer, integrators, etc.) will be available as a different package.

[aMail-announce] Welcome! (announce #1)

Hi aMailers, 



this is the first issue of aMail-announce, the list for catching the latest news about aMail. 



I wish to give you a warmly Welcome! to the list, and its nuts and bolts. 



The announcements are planed to be bi-weekly (once each two weeks) and will carry all the work made, addings, comments and so on for aMail. 



As the starting point I wish to thank Alex Hart for all the work done on aMail (he's the creator and first programmer). He's not working as developer for aMail, but we keep in touch. 



Now, to keep moving, let me say you that the first release have been deployed, which fixes some minor bugs and adds a few enhancements. It can be downloaded from http://www.bit-man.com.ar/aMail/download/aMail-2.0.1.tar.gz 



The good news are that this project will began to make a big turn. The plans are to convert it in the most secure, portable and flexible program for e-mail managing, so we're moving on that direction. These ones are not in random order, to evaluate a new feature, changes and so on this order will be followed. 



It's mainly pushed for today Internet nature: not secure, multiplatform, and a huge amount of people using it. The next release (v2.1) is being created, and its main addition is the multilingual feature. The version 2.0 will be held as was first conceived, and updated (mainly) with security and bug fixes. So don't get worried, v2.0 will continue to exist and prove to be usefull for years to come !!
