The issue is that the D-Link fw is huge, the 'sqimage' file has some 40MB and that, together with the fw file itself exceeds the size of the /tmp tmpfs filesystem.
See https://groups.google.com/d/msg/alt-f/Dt3JfQHUOIQ/BImOLfFz-BYJ
False alarm.
The reported only happens when using the command line, and if you do it you are supposed to know what you are doing.
When using the webUI the /tmp tmpfs filesystem is grown as needed to support the downloaded file. On the DNS-320/320L/325, which have plenty RAM, even without an active swap a 46MB D-Link fw file is uploaded and the split correctly.
Problems will arise if uploading a huge file on the DNS-321/323, which hasn't enough memory to grow the tmpfs as needed. But it never happens with a legitime fw file.
