Being a command line based client you need to connect to the box from a computer to run it. Why not use the client directly on the computer? What I'm missing?

Well that way you can change location as much as you want and still stay on the irc, let it online 24h a day -with relogging scripts. It s important if you are -let's say- doing debugging softs and need to do it with people seldomly online, or that it is interesting to see what's being said on an IRC. It is your own home ircshell.
Very helpful indeed when you start using it.
BTW: there is no IRC to alt-f, right?
