For that you need to compile modular support for joysick, analog joystick, and whatever type of joystick you have. Then you need to modprobe the drivers for them. For my gravis pad that connects to the sound card port I modprobed joydev, ns558, and analog. You may then have to modprobe the dirver module for the joystick if it is not one of the previous. I then test the setup using a utility jstest /dev/js0. I had to download thejoystick driver modules from the internet then compiled and installed it. Read the README. load the modules. run jstest. if it did not wokr you may have to make a sympolic link from where ever js0 is located to where it is searching for it. Do a search at freshmeat for joystick drivers. Linux joystick drivers in other search engines. You will want to download the software and get the most recent versions. I personally prefer to use USB joysticks though. Please keep me up to date on your progress with the emu10k1 or sblive! I learned how to play midi but i am not sure if i am doing it correctly. I used the program kmidi. I typed at the command prompt kmidi -Od filename.mid. I have not learned yet how to get it to conroll my external midi device or how to recieve input from my external midi device. If you or anyone knows about this please let me know.
