I have followed the instructions given on the alsa-project webpage for alsa-xxx-0.9.2. There were no errors along the way, but for some reason, I don't get any sound from any of the outputs. Headphones and line out are completely silent. I have tried adjusting the volume with alsamixer, and I have unmuted the default settings. xmms doesn't complain at all, and I've tried using the Also 0.9 output plugin, as well as the OSS Driver. Neither seemed to work. Is there any other tests I can do to see if everything;s loaded or what's going on? Here's the output of lsmod when nothing is playing: debian:~# lsmod Module Size Used by Tainted: P snd-seq-midi 4096 0 (autoclean) (unused) snd-emu10k1-synth 4892 0 (autoclean) (unused) snd-emux-synth 28188 0 (autoclean) [snd-emu10k1-synth] snd-seq-midi-emul 5232 0 (autoclean) [snd-emux-synth] snd-seq-virmidi 3352 0 (autoclean) [snd-emux-synth] snd-seq-oss 29088 0 (unused) snd-seq-midi-event 3336 0 [snd-seq-midi snd-seq-virmidi snd-seq-oss] snd-seq 37648 2 [snd-seq-midi snd-emux-synth snd-seq-midi-emul snd-seq-virmidi snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi-event] snd-pcm-oss 39012 0 snd-mixer-oss 13720 0 [snd-pcm-oss] snd-emu10k1 71252 1 [snd-emu10k1-synth] snd-pcm 60960 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-emu10k1] snd-timer 14824 0 [snd-seq snd-pcm] snd-page-alloc 5052 0 [snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm] snd-util-mem 1392 0 [snd-emux-synth snd-emu10k1] snd-rawmidi 14016 0 [snd-seq-midi snd-seq-virmidi snd-emu10k1] snd-ac97-codec 37344 0 [snd-emu10k1] snd-seq-device 4368 0 [snd-seq-midi snd-emu10k1-synth snd-emux-synth snd-seq-oss snd-seq snd-emu10k1 snd-rawmidi] snd-hwdep 5280 0 [snd-emu10k1] snd 30436 4 [snd-seq-midi snd-emux-synth snd-seq-virmidi snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-util-mem snd-rawmidi snd-ac97-codec snd-seq-device snd-hwdep] soundcore 3844 10 [snd] nvidia 1466464 10 Hopefully somebody's seen something simialr.
