My Soundblaster 16PCI doesn't want to work with debian-woody alsa. Alsa packet versions are >= 0.9 there. Linux kernel is 2.4.16. lsmod says: es1371 25984 0 gameport 1484 0 [es1371] soundcore 3556 4 [es1371] So the right modules should be installed. lspci -v says: 00:09.0 Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq ES1371 [AudioPCI-97] (rev 08) Subsystem: Ensoniq Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI64V, AudioPCI128 Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 5 I/O ports at d000 [size=64] Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 1 And the card plays if directly driven by xmms without alsa. Alsaconf version 0.4.3b asks lots of things I don't know, e. g. Max. dac1 (playback1) frame size in kB... (I have ansered 8). From where do I get the info? Finally alsaconf says ``OK, 1 card(s) configured,'' then: Loading driver: Starting ALSA sound driver (version 0.9.0beta10): no sound cards defined. Setting the PCM volume to 100% and the Master output volume to 50% amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory Could not initialize the mixer, the card was probably not detected correctly. The sound driver obviously does not find the card. What to do? Help greatly welcomed. Greetings Hartmut ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dr.-Ing.
