Hi! I am trying to get my Aureal Vortex soundcard to work, in a mandrake 9.2-installation. I downloaded the alsa source, and compiled the modules according to instructions (running kernel 2.4.22-10mdk). I do: modprobe sound modprobe snd-pcm-oss modprobe snd-mixer-oss modprobe snd-au8810 and then there is a /dev/dsp (until then no such file). But I get no sound at all. Volume turned up with aumixer. lspci says: 00:08.0 Multimedia audio controller: Aureal Semiconductor AU8810 Vortex Digital Audio Processor (rev 02) dmesg says: Vortex: init.... <3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<3>bad adb fifo reset!<6>done. devfs_register(audio): could not append to parent, err: -17 vortex: revision = 0x2, device = 3 vortex: Erratum workaround enabled. vortex: IRQ reg error Anyone knows whats wrong and what I should try? Hi! Tried it all without loading module sound, still same problem. However, soundcore is loaded automatically when i do mopdprobe snd-au8810. Dont know if is important? Have you unmuted (_not_ just raised volumes of) the relevant channels with eg alsamixer (from the alsa-utils)? HTH, -Frans |

Hi! Thanks for your suggestions. However...... As user, trying xmms, i get an error msg (permissions somewhere?). But as root, xmms appears to play. I raised volume with alsamixer, with aumixer, and unmuted on the volume panel applet in gnome. Are there more ways to unmute? Still no sound....
