I'd put money on the fact that your onboard snd-hda-intel
device is disabled in the BIOS.

I have in essence 3 sound cards on one machine.  And onboard one, a PCI one, and a USB one.  With the below /etc/modprobe.d/ entry only the PCI and USB one show up in /proc/asound/.  Alsa version 1.0.15rc3 on a custom 2.6.22.6 kernel.  All of the alsa modules load (snd-hda-intel, snd-ice1712, snd-usb-audio) so I don't know why it doesn't give me access to the third card.

It should apply to the Hg version.

Oops.  But this value should be added to generic_dmix_supported_format.

It tests for a signed zero sample instead of an unsigned one.  In the
generic_mix_areas_u8 function, change the line
      if (!*dst) {
to
      if (*dst == 0x80) {
