Didn't tested all functions, but the basic functionality of the card works fine. Need some help here: I am trying to upgrade ALSA, but I am getting stuck in the 0.9.0rc series. 0.9.0rc5 works fine. 0.9.0rc6 also works, except that "alsactl restore" complains: /usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:793: warning: iface mismatch (2/0) for control #1/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:799: warning: name mismatch (Master Playback Switch/Joystick Enable) for control #1 /usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:793: warning: iface mismatch (2/0) for control #2/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:799: warning: name mismatch (Master Playback Volume/Joystick Address) for control #2 /usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:900: bad control.2.value index when first installed and subsequently complains: /usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:960: Cannot write control '3:0:0:IEC958 Playback Mask:0' : Operation not permitted If I upgrade further to 0.9.0rc7, 0.9.1 or any later version, alsactl complains as before, but worse than that any application such as aumix, amixer, alsamixer hangs *hard* (I can't even kill -9 the process). Any ideas how I can investigate this further? Details of my system are appended, Regards, Jeremy Henty Details: Linux 2.2.25, ALSA configured with ./configure \ --with-kernel=/usr/src/linux \ --with-cards=ens1371 \ --with-oss=yes \ --with-sequencer=yes /proc/asound/cards: 0 [card0 ]: ES1371 - Ensoniq AudioPCI Ensoniq AudioPCI ES1371 at 0x6600, irq 10 /etc/modules.conf: # Parallel port alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc # Ethernet alias eth0 3c59x # ALSA alias char-major-116 snd alias snd-card-0 snd-ens1371 # OSS emulation alias char-major-14 soundcore alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss |

On most distributions, it's already there. Look for "soundcore" in the output of lsmod. But I think your problem is elsewhere: > My modules.conf file is: > ... > alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0 > ... > alias sound-slot-0 i810_audio "i810_audio" is the kernel's OSS driver, "snd-intel8x0" is the ALSA driver. You cannot load both at the same time. Replace the second alias line above with: alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 HTH Clemens |
