My system freezes randomly usually within a few minutes
if I'm playing musik via artsd. The freeze is "hard" -
no SysRq possible. The system simply stops.
After buiding a kernel with debuging enabled I get
those messages.
sound/pci/via82xx.c:716: invalid via82xx_cur_ptr (size
= 2048, count = 3064)
The freezes become more seldom if I use vesa grafix
without any acceleration instead of savage for Xorg. It
also seems to be correlated with IDE-activity.
WIthout any sound playing I could not observe freezes.
Changing the artsd parameters can reduce the
possibility dramatically (running for hours) but still
freezes occur.
System is Athlon4M laptop with SavageTwisterK7 shared
memory grafix borad integrated in the VIA chipset.
ALSA detects #0: VIA 82C686A/B rev40 at 0xe400, irq 9
Runnning Linux version 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 (gcc-Version
3.3.5 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.5-r1, ssp-3.3.2-3, pie-8.7.7.1))
But also observed those freezes with other kernels
(i.e. vanilla kernel-2.4 and gentoo 2.6.3)
Changed video, ide, ... but did not succeed in making
sound work without crashes.
Can anyone repoduce this? I could not findy anyone else
having this problem. Is my board (does not crash with
WInXP) broken? Any idea to work around this?
Best regards and thanks for your great work!
