Complete rewrite for Mac OS X of the famous multimodal, programmable Text Editor Alpha. Alpha has powerful editing capabilities for TeX and LaTeX documents, Web pages in HTML, R scripts or source files for many programming languages and it is extendible. This new core basis is based on Apple's Cocoa framework and comes with an entirely revised and improved Tcl library of packages. See the Home Page at http://alphacocoa.sourceforge.net. I’ve been using Alpha over various generations since I got my first powerbook G3 decades ago, for programming, and for text. I use it daily. I’ve toyed with others now and again, and have systematically returned to Alpha. It’s the best editor I’m aware of. I give full points on all scores, because if I didn’t, it would only to make the spurious point “nothing is perfect”. I’ve no complaints on any front, hence full points.

Excellent Editor. Use it to write latex and html since many years.

I've been using this editor ever since its first availability on Classic MacOS and am delighted to see it entering the 21st century as a powerful and feature-packed open source editor which can be extended by user scripting to do almost anything. Other editors just seem bloated or clumsy by comparison.
