Hi. I just downloaded and installed alliance. When I try to open alliance a "Java Virtual Machine Launcher" window pops up with this message: "unable to access jarfile alliance.tmp".
What can I do to use alliance?

One reason for this is the installation program puts the files into Program Files which is owned by the administrator. It can't run the first time because the executable cannot explode the jar file and other contents into that directory. (One proposal was to run the application as an administrator, and that's fine if you want to do that every time, but anytime you try to run as a normal user it tries to update files in that directory so it will fail.)
I installed it into a directory owned by myself and it works great.

I had the same problem, I use Win7 and had to run Alliance in XP compatibility mode. This cleared up the problem. Hope this helps!

I you "Run as Administrator" it will work
i know a couple of people who had this problem, and simply doing that helped (although it appeared unlikely)
also…this seems to pop up a lot for 64bit people or windows 7-64bit or 32
