Well, you haven't told us what you actually want to do so it is bit hard to give any specific advice... :-) Using UTF-8 shouldn't be that difficult, though. You just need to understand that any characters which aren't one of the 127 first ones (all accented characters aren't), take up more than one byte in a char array. So you should use Allegro's Unicode functions when looping through them, for instance. However, if you just need to output some strings that you've entered in the source code, this isn't relevant at all. Allegro will take care of everything then, you just need to enter the strings UTF-8 encoded instead of Latin-1. Since your editor probably won't let you do this directly, you either a) have to find an editor which supports entering Unicode (I bet that Emacs does, so you could just switch to Linux and start using that :-), or b) convert your strings with the textconv utility which resides in the tools subdirectory in your Allegro directory. Simple as that, really. -- Ole Laursen http://sunsite.dk/olau/ >From <all...@ca...> Tue Nov 28 18:56:16 2000 Received: from mail9.wlv.netzero.net [209.247.163.66] by canvaslink.com (SMTPD32-6.00) id A61F11E90126; Tue, 28 Nov 2000 18:56:15 -0500 Received: (qmail 8309 invoked from network); 28 Nov 2000 23:55:09 -0000 Received: from ip230.seattle15.wa.pub-ip.psi.net (HELO mecha) (38.28.98.230) by mail9.wlv.netzero.net with SMTP; 28 Nov 2000 23:55:09 -0000 Message-ID: <001f01c05996$a541e720$e6621c26@mecha> From: "Neil C. Your e-mail client, Mutt 1.2.5i, is formatting your message as an unusual multipart MIME content-type: Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="d6Gm4EdcadzBjdND" The MIME pieces in the body of the message are stated as inline though, so they shouldn't show up as attachments. My e-mail client interprets your messages the same way Outlook does (gah!) so I guess I'd better get off my lazy butt and fix it. -Tom >From <all...@ca...> Tue Nov 28 19:49:03 2000 Received: from smtp.WPI.EDU [130.215.24.62] by canvaslink.com with ESMTP (SMTPD32-6.00) id A6A2F140122; Tue, 28 Nov 2000 18:58:26 -0500 Received: from orz.wpi.edu (orz.res.WPI.NET [130.215.232.159]) by smtp.WPI.EDU (8.11.2.Beta1/8.11.2.Beta1) with ESMTP id eASNvXE27399 for <al...@ca...>; Tue, 28 Nov 2000 18:57:33 -0500 (EST) Message-Id: <5.0...@sm...> X-Sender: or...@sm... Tracing it into the Allegro source revealed it to be failing on a call to acquire_primary_surface() or something like that. I have personally seen this behavior on two computers, which had the same motherboard and sound card and the same version of Windows 2000 professional, but different graphics cards. DirectX diagnostics reported nothing wrong, but Unreal Tournmant ran slowly and refused to full-screen itself. My game (which uses Allegro for almost all IO) however, works on many windows 2000 computers, albiert with more than the usual allotment of bugs. Among other things, it sometimes shows up as windowed when trying to be full-screen, it sometimes draws black over large portions of the screen for no apparent reason, buttons in the GUI sometimes fail to unclick the first time you click on them, etc.. |
