I'm a passionado AllChars user. Unfortunately, AllChars 4.0.321 crashes
Internet Explorer (both IE8 and IE9) on Win7. It causes IE to crash directly
at start of IE.
Error details (selected)
Application Name: iexplore.exe
Fault Module Name: KERNELBASE.dll
Exception Code: 0eedfade
When I exit AllChars I can run IE normally.
When I run IE as Admin I can have it running WITH AllChars running.
Formerly I tried AllChars vs 5. but this caused an unusable system with many
crashes, so this is not a solution.
Any suggestions?
Paul

For many years I'm a user of AllChars. Last year, when I got my new PC with
Windows 7/64, I installed my old v362 + patch 363. It worked perfect, also in
IE8. A couple of days ago, I updated to IE9. Although IE9 could start while
AllChars was running, I couldn't get foreign characters in the Google search
fields. Googling with Firefox 4.0 was no problem.
From AllChars’s website I downloaded v 4.0.321 and installed it. While this
new version was running, IE9 couldn’t start at all.
I didn’t experiment with 4.0.321 any further, but decided to go back to
AllChars 363. When I want to google, I will use Firefox from now on.

I now noticed AllChars 4.0.321 not only crashes IE9 on W7, but also Office
2010 with documents that are downloaded from the internet. No problems with
documents that didn't pass thru the internet. 2 examples:
A Word document created on this machine in Word 2010, saved as Word 2003,
(so far works with AllChars running), sent out the document via mail,
including as check to myself, downloaded it from the mail, when trying to open
it: the same error as occurs while starting IE : notification: ...program...
has stopped working. (program may be IE9, Word, Excel, respectively)
A spreadsheet downloaded from Google Docs as Excel, when opening it: same
error.
All errors are gone when AllChars is exited.
When AllChars is exited, the document first (succesfully) opened, and
afterwards AllChars restarted, this also immediately leads to the same
problem.
I'm anxious to try vs. 5 as this didn't work before, I installed and tried it
twice, with a healf a year or so between the attempts.
I'm very sorry about this, because AllChars is one of my really-need programs
and I was a happy user for many years.

I now found out the problem is with 'protected view' in MS Office
documents. This is set automatically to documents downloaded from the
Internet. This is a setting (in Office Excel 2010> File> settings>trust
center>trust center settings >protected view > uncheck 'Enable Protected view
for files downloaded from the Internet'. After I unchecked this the Excel file
opened without problems, with AllChars 4.0321 running,

I just found that IE9 works fine with my old AllChars363 as long as Protected
Mode is NOT enabled. However with AllChars 4.0321, IE9 still crashes, even
with Protected Mode disabled.
IE9 with Protection Mode enabled doesn't crash with AllChars363, only problem
then is that Ctrl a e or ctrl e " does nothing.
From now on, I will use my Forefox + AllChars363
