#34 MySQL access not allowed?

  • Nobody/Anonymous

When I try to login to the MySQL server using the
    following command:

    [verdich@shell1 verdich]$ mysql -h moby -u elysium -p

and enter the password 'pQ376Vz1LfoaW' (without the
quotes of course) I get the following error:

ERROR 1045: Access denied for user:
    'elysium@shell1.i.sourceforge.net' (Using password:

I believe this the information (username, hostname, and
password) is correct, but I might be wrong.

    Kind Regards,
    Kasper Verdich Lund, verdich@daimi.au.dk
Administrator of the Elysium Project (elysium, 1260)

First of all, you should never share your password publicly
    as you just did.

Second, specify your database when you connect and see if
    that works.

Well, I'm also getting errors. The following is a

[mikew@shell1 mikew]$ mysql -h qmc -umikew -pxxxxxx qmc
ERROR 2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'qmc' (111)
    [mikew@shell1 mikew]$

    This, according to /usr/include/mysql/errmsg.h is
CR_CONN_HOST_ERROR, which I suppose means that the host is
not running MySQL... or is it just running it on a different

mike - why are you using

    -h qmc

    try -h moby

  • Nobody/Anonymous

Erm... 'cos there's absolutely no documentation whatsoever
on what I should be using... I just supposed that since
we're all one big happy family on shell1... Ok, maybe not

Anyway, moby doesn't work either - a transcript:
[mikew@shell1 mikew]$ mysql -h moby -umikew -pxxxxxx qmc
ERROR 1045: Access denied for user:
    'mikew@shell1.i.sourceforge.net' (Using password: YES)
    [mikew@shell1 mikew]$

Sorry about the public display of my password stuff... I
actually thought this was a way of requesting help from the
SourceForge team (exclusively), and I didn't realize that
the message would be available for the eyes of the general

    I've tried connecting with
    [verdich@shell1 verdich] mysql -h moby -u elysium -p elysium
and then typing in my password, but that didn't work either.

Why do you use moby? What about (host) mysql?
