Dear Sourceforge team,

I am sorry if I missed something obvious, but even after spending a considerable time with the documentation I am unable to add a new user to the mediawiki hosted app.

The doc at http://alexandria.wiki.sourceforge.net/Hosted+Apps says that
"Permissions for Hosted Apps are controlled in the normal manner for the application."

The wikimedia doc says on creating an account that one should visit [[Special:UserLogin]], see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Logging_in#Creating_an_account.

However, it appears this page does not exist in the sourceforge installation, at least not for my project

https://apps.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/strasheela/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin

In contrast to other mediawiki installations, e.g.

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UserLogin

Also, the list of special pages does not provide any such page.

https://apps.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/strasheela/index.php?title=Special:SpecialPages

So, what shall I do to add a user with editing and a user with admin rights?

Thank you!

Best
Torsten

    Hi Torsten,

I'm a little confused on this one. On your Hosted Apps MediaWiki page, http://apps.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/strasheela/index.php?title=Main_Page, I see the login space in the upper right corner. Can you let me know how you are attempting to create an account? The facility should allow authenticated SF.net users that are project members to access pages there.

Please clarify when you get a chance.

If you need anything else, please post a response to this request.

    Cheers!,

    Dear Daniel,

Thank you for your reply, and sorry for my late reaction after the Xmas break.

I can log into MediaWiki myself, but I would also like to grant all other project members editing rights. Are you saying that every project member automatically has editing rights in the MediaWiki? I remember that I read something contrary in some other support thread.

In the User rights management (https://apps.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/myproject/index.php?title=Special:UserRights) I cannot see and edit the access rights of the other members of our project. If I enter my own user name, then I can see and edit my rights as editor and admin. Doing the same for other project members results in

There is no user by the name "ksprotte". Check your spelling.

    What am I missing?

    Thank you!

    Best
    Torsten

    Torsten,

I have a project and a different user. On my project with MediaWiki enabled, my other use is able to log in, and edit pages in MediaWiki. Once my other user logs in and goes to the app, I have to log in for the app as that user. Now, you probably do need to add the users via the Special Pages section (See the "Toolbox in the lower left section of the page) and set their abilities / roles.

If you need anything else, please post a response to this request.

    Cheers!,

    Dear Daniel,

Thanks again for your answer. I understand from your message, that each project member has first to log into MediaWiki and then the project admin can edit their access rights (do I really need to log in as that user with their password?). Anyway, I cannot *add* users via any Special Pages, I can only edit the rights of existing users.

It might be helpful for other sourceforge users, if the information you just gave me is provided at the doc page http://alexandria.wiki.sourceforge.net/Hosted+Apps. This page currently says that "Permissions for Hosted Apps are controlled in the normal manner for the application." However, it appears that actually Sourceforge introduced some way to add MediaWiki users which is *not* the "normal way".

Anyway, thanks again for your reply, I now got some clue what I was missing :)

    Best
    Torsten
